A message from our founder...
Connected Doulas was born from my passion for community and connecting with others. Prior to starting this company, I worked independently for over five years supporting hundreds of families as their birth and postpartum doula, educator, and sleep coach throughout Greater Philadelphia.
During this time I personally experienced and noticed an industry wide discouragement and frustration with the impersonal nature of doula agencies in the region. I believed that doulas and clients deserved better, and I knew I was capable of starting a doula agency that viewed the matching process not as a business transaction, but the kindling of a relationship that would impact the lives of both the client and the doula.
I am so proud to see the communities that have formed from our small business, and we are so excited to walk alongside your family during this special time.
- Emma Yoder
Our team is made up of highly trained and knowledgeable birth doulas, postpartum doulas, newborn care specialists, and night nurses in Greater Philadelphia, Northern Delaware, and Denver, Colorado.
Unlike many doula agencies with a revolving door of doulas, we are a tight-knit team where we know each other personally as friends and colleagues. Our doulas have worked together for years and have grown strong personal and professional relationships.
We bring unique professional backgrounds and one united passion: the love of nurturing expecting families and their babies.
Most of our clients work with 2-3 doulas at a time to provide optimal scheduling flexibility and back-up support. You will be able to interview each of your doula candidates before receiving in-person support, and when matched, you will receive a formal bio and introduction to your doula.
Rest assured, you will be working with the best doulas in the industry, all of whom have gone through our comprehensive hiring process that guarantees:
Our Connected Doulas Admin Team
The admin team is working behind the scenes to ensure a seamless and communicative experience for our clients and doulas.
Emma Yoder
Founder & President
Hello! My name is Emma Yoder and a few of the hats I wear are as a birth and postpartum doula, student doctor, yoga instructor, and the founder of Connected Doulas (previously Connected Transitions).
I am certified by the Doulas of North America International (DONA), I earned my bachelors in biology from Bryn Mawr College, and I am pursuing my dream of becoming a family doctor at Drexel University College of Medicine in their MD/MBA program.
My greatest passion is serving my community as an advocate, educator, and compassionate listener. My personal philosophies that guide my work as a doula and business owner are influenced by my experiences in medicine, yoga, and growing up in close communion with mother earth as the daughter of organic farmers.
I believe in the power of evidence-based medicine, while also trusting the intuitive essence of the body and soul.
I am deeply honored to have connected with so many incredible families and doulas throughout my years in this work. My experiences have only strengthened my conviction that one of our greatest strengths as human beings is our ability to lean on each other for support, especially during the challenging yet beautiful milestone of welcoming a baby earthside.
Monica Timmins
Director of Client Relations
I am proud to wear many hats as the Director of Client Relations at Connected Doulas, a Certified Postpartum and Infant Care Doula, a Certified Birth Doula, a Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, and a Sleep Coach. Before stepping into this fulfilling career, I spent nearly a decade as a nanny, nurturing my passion for supporting families.
In college, I pursued studies in Health Sciences and Infant and Early Childhood Development, which laid the foundation for my journey into doula work. My calling became clear during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when the need for support for new families was more critical than ever. Witnessing the lack of resources available during that challenging period inspired me to become certified and dedicate myself to this incredible work.
Providing non-judgmental support, education, and care to new families is both my mission and my joy. I believe that even the smallest positive impact can ripple into meaningful change, helping families transition smoothly into a new phase of life.
As a postpartum doula, my goal is to be a steady, compassionate presence during one of the most transformative times in a family's journey.
Carolyn Callahan
Director of Finance & Operations
I’m the Director of Finance and Operations for Connected Doulas, where I work behind the scenes to ensure a smooth and supportive experience for our clients and doulas during the transformative birth and postpartum journey.
My responsibilities include processing billing and invoicing, organizing company operations, and handling client reimbursements—all of which allow our team to focus on delivering excellent and compassionate care.
With a background in real estate and teaching, I bring a strong foundation of critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and attention to detail to my role. I love contributing to an environment where families feel empowered and supported.
Laura Bradbury
Director of Intake & Recruitment
In addition to my admin role as the Director of Intake & Recruitment at Connected Doulas, I have practiced as a postpartum doula for over 10 years. I’m deeply passionate about supporting families and their babies, and I truly love getting to know each doula’s strengths, gifts, and personality, and thoughtfully matching them with the families who will benefit most from their care.
To share a bit more about my journey, I began working with children as a nanny while studying at American University in Washington, DC, where I earned a degree in government with a minor in theater. After college, I backpacked through Europe and Southeast Asia and eventually lived in Melbourne, Australia, where I met my English husband.
We later moved to London, where I continued working as a nanny and night nurse caring for infants and toddlers. Our next move brought us to Los Angeles, where I trained as a postpartum doula with DONA International and worked there for five years, supporting families and their newborns. We have since returned to my hometown of West Chester, PA, where we are raising our two daughters.
I am looking forward to meeting you and learning more about your family and how we can best support you on your journey!
Colleen Welsh
Postpartum Chef
I am a Philly-based doula and postpartum chef for Connected Doulas. I completed my full-spectrum training and certification with Doula Trainings International, and I’ve also completed additional postpartum training with Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings. As a certified Size Inclusive Doula, I am deeply passionate about reproductive justice, community care, and all things nourishing!
As a queer, plus-size, and neurodiverse doula, I take great pride in offering inclusive and expansive care, informed by my own identities. My practice is evidence-based, non-judgmental, and grounded in compassion.
