Great question, and one we hear from Denver families all the time! With so many families in the Denver metro area juggling demanding careers, active lifestyles, and a relatively short maternity leave, making the most of your postpartum support really matters.

These two roles overlap in more ways than not, with subtle differences in training and scope of knowledge. A postpartum doula is focused on supporting you through the transition into new parenthood — emotional support, postpartum recovery, lactation guidance, and hands-on newborn care so you can rest and recover.

A newborn care specialist (NCS) focuses primarily on your baby, bringing a deeper level of specialized expertise in newborn sleep, feeding, and development. We recommend reaching out as early as possible — ideally in your second trimester. Denver has a wonderful and growing birthworker community, and our doulas do book up, especially for overnight and birth support. That said, we always do our best to accommodate families who come to us later in pregnancy or even after baby arrives.

Our pricing may vary depending on the type of support, the number of hours you purchase upfront, your doula’s experience level, and whether you have one baby or multiples. On average, you can expect to pay $2,000- $2,500 for birth support, and $50-$65 per hour for postpartum or newborn care shifts. However, we support all families and their budgets through sliding scale options, and we would love to set up a call with you to discuss how we can support your family.

Yes! Many of our Denver clients use CARROT Fertility or other employer-sponsored family care benefits — such as Maven and Progyny — to cover doula support and newborn care. We recommend checking with your HR team or benefits provider to understand your specific coverage. If you have a benefit, simply mention it on your match questionnaire so we can pair you with an approved or eligible doula. Once you're booked, we'll send over an itemized statement for you to submit for reimbursement — it’s that easy!

In many cases, yes. HSA and FSA eligibility for doula services varies depending on your plan and provider. We recommend checking with your benefits administrator, and our payment processor will accept eligible HSA/FSA cards.

Every doula and newborn care specialist on our team holds accredited training through recognized certifying organizations, carries liability insurance, and is CPR certified. Beyond credentials, every specialist goes through a thorough application, interview, and background check process before joining our team. We hold our team to a high standard because your family deserves nothing less.

Yes. Denver's elevation brings unique considerations for newborns — from feeding and breathing to sleep — that standard newborn care training doesn't always cover. Our specialists are knowledgeable about these nuances and come prepared to support your baby's adjustment from day one.

We get this question a lot, and the answer is absolutely yes! The idea of adding another person into an already cozy space can feel like a lot — but in our experience, simply knowing your baby is in skilled, caring hands is enough to help new parents finally get the rest they need. Your overnight doula doesn't need a nursery or a dedicated room. Many of our Denver families simply set up a bassinet in the living area and utilize a sound machine in their bedroom. It works beautifully!
